Why Networks Made of Nothing Will Get You Nowhere
Written by PLRMan on August 11, 2009 – 2:34 pm -Today I come to you in order to understand one little problem for you. Why is there such duplicity in the online SEO marketplace? Why is it so guaranteed that each time you venture forward in order to get yourself found in search engines, there are hundreds of unreliable folks in the woods, claiming they’ll do a wonderful job for you, but at a high price?
It’s Worse During a Crisis
The answers are very straightforward, but it’s crucial you know what we’re talking about. Why, you might ask? Because—and especially because of the climate we’re living in now—when otherwise normal people get desperate, the regular folks make bad decisions and the scammers have a field day.
The Two Reasons You Need to Understand
So: there are two essential explanations for the crappy atmosphere that is now too-prevalent in the SEO market. One is nothing new. There have always been types who have tried to make money from nothing, and if we look back in time, they have used to their advantage crises very much along the lines of this one.
Secondly is the theory of SEO and selling advertisements online. Simply by virtue of what it is, it attracts shifty characters. This doesn’t mean you need to think honest SEO doesn’t exist—most surely not, as there are plenty of them out there. But the world of advertisement has never lured entirely honest people across the board. There are a billion shady door-to-door salesmen out there, as we all know. Same goes online.
Open Your History Book
So, why not commence with the lessons from history. In times of crisis, people tend to get confused. 1930s America isn’t only known for dust and the New Deal, but it’s full of preachers, hucksters, and scammers everywhere, preying on people’s desperation. Ever seen the HBO show Carnivale? Its repertoire of actors is constituted entirely from these types.
Combine that climate with some of the reasons as to why we’re in this economic hardship, mainly the pipe dream that it’s easy to earn cash without putting the work in (one of the main ideas behind constantly ‘flipping houses’ in a mortgage bubble), and you’ve a rough soup.
Exactly the Same in Every Way
Shifty SEO companies profit from this timely gap in vigilance by making the very same claims that scamsters have been hawking for decades. They claim there’s a massive market just waiting for you to tap into it, and claim there are great profits to be made, essentially from nothing at all. You only need to pay your fee to be allowed in to this mysterious profit stream, which, for some reason, they aren’t just taking for themselves.
The idea is that you might cultivate some sort of mysterious link-profit, and the army of users will drive enough advertising dollars for you to simply start receiving big amounts of cash in the post-box.
Links to the Abyss
Just what this huge mix of shady information is isn’t really specified, and that’s exactly what they want. As long as you’re making your payment to the SEO company, that’s all they give a damn about (therefore you are the only real revenue stream here).
If your promised profits never materialize, they can’t really be held responsible, because there was never anything solid to start with. There are a million ways to obscure your lack of income.
Gamblers and Advertisers
Then we have our second important explanation: the heart of SEO and publicity. Madison avenue has always been a dicey game, and today’s marketplace is not exempt from this mentality.
Of course with the rise in the incredible amount of analytic data available to us , SEO now has the opportunity to be more transparent than ever.
There have always been shifty advertisers out there, but now with the anonymity of the internet, they’ve increased radically in numbers.
Look in Your Mailbox Sometime and Understand the Heart of Spam
Consider this: the US Postal Service passes on ridiculous discounts for mail in bulk. Essentially, this is useless mail, or spam, but slightly less irritating because it arrives in your mailbox instead of your email inbox (maybe it’s more irritating, to tell the truth).
If the US Postal Service is essentially just a funnel for spam most of the time, think of what must happen with the relative anonymity the internet allows us to use. The quantity of potential scammers simply multiplies exponentially.
Just don’t be distracted from the fact that the online advertising world is a legitimate business concern—they are the ad agencies of the coming years. Choose a real, respected, and transparent one!
“How the hell do you keep all your blogs fed with fresh content?”
That’s the question I get asked most of all. The answer is I don’t, Syndicate Kahuna feeds them for me with on topic, unique posts and it doesn’t cost me a dime for the content!
