How Dishonest SEO Companies are Ruining it For the Rest of Us
Written by PLRMan on August 11, 2009 – 2:34 pm -When you pay a large company to run your online campaign, you are dishing out for a specialized kind of job, one that was only established in the last few years. This isn’t always the safest thing in the world.
Using Jargon to Their Advantage
What does that signify for the transparency of these outfits? Well, that too many pseudo-companies are floating about, looking to fleece you. And many of them have come upon of pulling it in: by using the mystery that’s inherent in search engines as a way to pull in as much cash as humanly possible.
No one is 100% secure in the knowledge of exactly why various pages online make it to the top of Google. We have a pretty good amount of guesses, and Google reveals its functions with a relatively good level of transparency. Trying things out and seeing how they work shows a lot. But fully appreciating all of the Google search algorithm is out of the realm of possibility: it’s never static, and gurus at Google are constantly on the lookout to confirm it can’t be messed with or played with artificially.
It’s Impossible to Trick Google Twice
That is key. Shifty SEO companies will wildly overestimate their wonderful (but fake) comprehension of how search engines function so they can mislead you with jargon. Buyer beware.
One of the main reasons honesty is incredibly fundamental is because many SEO companies will handle your paid search campaigns. Completely opposite from the Google’s arbitrary and slightly secret methods, these campaigns could not be more open.
Why Newspapers and Television Were Harder to Analyze Than the Web
You don’t have to depend on viewership or traditional methods like with old-fashioned advertising: you can know exactly to whom and how—down to the most specific city—your advertisements are working.
So, any SEO company who takes a chunk of your cash from you and lumps your properly paid search in with the more hard (but still billable) job of organic SEO, and doesn’t let you see where that cash is headed, is simply not worth doing business with. Now, certainly SEO companies will require payment—they’re providing a difficult job, and they’re a company just like the rest.
Every Good SEO Must Herald Openness
But not providing you with full Google Analytics and a solid sense of how much is being used on paid search is just a way of covering up shady practices.
The transparency that can be found in Google Analytics should be embraced and promoted by any SEO company, but just like in the ‘offline’ world, there are untrustworthy types and there are truthful ones. Ensure you finally settle on one that utilizes your ad money wisely.
Old-School Comparisons Can Make Things Clear
Sometimes the easiest method to get a complete idea of just how this Internet marketing game is played is to hold it up against various previous publicity markets. Just consider the following: you are paying a branding agency to advertise your company in a new market, and you don’t have time to follow your various campaigns because you’re busy running your business. So you are a slave to the ad men for all your feedback. You don’t need to have obtained a wall full of business degrees to use a little common sense.
Got it, up to here? Now just think that this ad agency is not very honest. They’re taking a ridiculously large quantity of your hard-earned cash and using it to have a bunch of fun, instead of working. Instead of being honest about what they’re making off you, they just care about earning.
Tricked Into Spending Too Much
So they claim that your money is going towards big buys in the Sunday paper (the same thing as AdWords or running a big banner push), but all you’re actually receiving is a tiny classified, the equivalent of an obscure listing on craigslist.
Old style companies could keep this behind closed doors, but Google’s AdWords systems are so ubiquitous that it’s generally useless to try and not reveal what you’re trying to accomplish—that is, unless you’re a company with a lack of transparency. Keep with clarity, choose a reliable SEO agency, and sleep well at night, all the better if they offer SEO Chat, you can test them first.
“How the hell do you keep all your blogs fed with fresh content?”
That’s the question I get asked most of all. The answer is I don’t, Syndicate Kahuna feeds them for me with on topic, unique posts and it doesn’t cost me a dime for the content!
